About this video
Since she was taken away in 1902 by the German Colonial Commander called Kurt Pavel, the people have suffered untold hardship including poor harvests and famine. Even the premature deaths of two former rulers, and a war that is currently raging in her homeland have been attributed to her absence.
Why is it that so much is attributed to the Ngonnso? Well here’s a bit of history for you.
Ngonnso is believed to have lived in the 14th century and was daughter to a King from the Tikar Dynasty. Her name Ngonnso – literally means "Mother of the Nso". She founded the Nso kingdom and her son became the first king. His successors have all claimed to be her direct descendants. She represents the ancestry, culture, and the core of the identity of the Nso people.
